GA senior wins GlynnDems scholarship

Evan Young of Glynn Academy has been awarded the annual Young Democrat Scholarship for a Glynn Academy student by the Glynn County Democratic Committee.

Young graduated in May with a 3.91 GPA. He won the $500 award with his essay about engaging with political campaigns in 2016 by creating effective social media posts and attending political and community events.

Along with his excellent academic record, Evan also was a keystone performer and technician for the GA Players, Glynn Academy’s drama group. He also has performed for The Island Players in their children’s program and one adult show.

Evan has experience in graphic design and social media. He was closely involved in Julie Jordan’s campaign for State Legislature in 2018.

In a letter recommending Evan for the scholarship, one mentor wrote: “I have never seen a high school student who is filled with so much drive. I know with his commitment, drive and passion, he will further develop his talents and make a name for himself wherever life takes him.”

Evan will attend Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, N.Y., in the fall.

Earlier this year GlynnDems awarded the scholarship for Brunswick High School to Damaria Gurley, who will attend Fort Valley State University in the fall.

March 25 Meeting: Commissioner Allen Booker, Amenities Kits for Homeless

Thanks so much to all, who attended the Glynn Dems March Community meeting March 25.  It was diverse, engaging, and interactive, with the highlights being: our keynote speaker, Commissioner Allen Booker. Many thanks to him, for leading a lively, thought-provoking Q&A; and compiling amenities kits for the ‘unsheltered homeless community,’ distributed by the charity, Gateway, through its Street Outreach Homeless Assistance Program. Many thanks to those, who donated travel-sized toiletries.

It was a great evening!

PLEASE NOTE: The April community meeting will take place April 29 (the fifth Monday of the month) because of Easter Monday.
We look forward to seeing you there!

What are you doing in 2020?

We need qualified candidates in 2020 to turn Glynn County blue. More than a dozen offices are up for election next year, including state representatives, county commissioners, county sheriff, and district attorney. In 2018 we showed that Democrats can do well in Glynn County. See which offices are up for election in 2020. We can’t win if you don’t run.
