Vacancies on Glynn County Democratic Committee

NOTICE OF VACANCIES
IN THE GLYNN COUNTY DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE 

CALL FOR INTERESTED CANDIDATES

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that, according to its Bylaws, all vacancies in Executive Committee Posts or Officers, in the Glynn County Democratic Committee, shall be filled by election of the remaining Committee members, provided at least three members remain.

Current Vacancies include:

• one (1) District 5 Representative
• one (1) District 1 Representative


Each representative will be elected to serve on the Committee for a four-year term, pro-rated from when the original term began. In these cases, the terms would end during the Presidential General Primary month, in 2020.
 
The elections will be held, by the Executive Committee, on Monday, June 24th, at 5:15 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church (in the Miller Building behind the church), Brunswick GA 31520.  Any interested parties should submit a letter of intent by June 17, at 5 p.m., to Committee Chair, Julie Jordan, at j.jordan13@att.net.

GA senior wins GlynnDems scholarship

Evan Young of Glynn Academy has been awarded the annual Young Democrat Scholarship for a Glynn Academy student by the Glynn County Democratic Committee.

Young graduated in May with a 3.91 GPA. He won the $500 award with his essay about engaging with political campaigns in 2016 by creating effective social media posts and attending political and community events.

Along with his excellent academic record, Evan also was a keystone performer and technician for the GA Players, Glynn Academy’s drama group. He also has performed for The Island Players in their children’s program and one adult show.

Evan has experience in graphic design and social media. He was closely involved in Julie Jordan’s campaign for State Legislature in 2018.

In a letter recommending Evan for the scholarship, one mentor wrote: “I have never seen a high school student who is filled with so much drive. I know with his commitment, drive and passion, he will further develop his talents and make a name for himself wherever life takes him.”

Evan will attend Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, N.Y., in the fall.

Earlier this year GlynnDems awarded the scholarship for Brunswick High School to Damaria Gurley, who will attend Fort Valley State University in the fall.

BHS senior wins GlynnDems scholarship

Student leader Damaria Gurley of Brunswick High School has won the annual Young Democrat Scholarship award given by the Glynn County Democratic Committee.

Gurley, who is a senior with a 3.56 GPA, won the $500 award with her essay about engaging in the political process through two clubs in which she is actively engaged.

Earlier this year she was named the Youth of the Year by the state Boys & Girls Club. She is the first member of Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia to win the top award in Georgia.

She will attend Fort Valley State University in the fall on an academic scholarship.

Cedric King, Julie Jordan Elected Members of the State Committee

Cedric King and Julie Jordan were elected Feb. 25 to serve as members of the Democratic Party of Georgia State Committee. The Executive Committee of the Glynn County Democratic Committee voted on the two new members at its Feb. 25 meeting.

The role of the state committee is to elect party chairs for each congressional district, elect officers of the Democratic Party of Georgia and elect Georgia members of the Democratic National Committee.

Members of the Glynn County Democrats Executive Committee will hold the election on Monday, Feb. 25, 5:30 p.m., at the Miller Building, First United Methodist Church of Brunswick, 1400 Norwich St., Brunswick GA 31520.

To qualify as a State Committee Member, you must be registered to vote in Glynn County and provide proof of residence. Please notify Julie Jordan, Chair of the Glynn County Democratic Committee, of your intention to run, by Monday, Feb. 18. Candidates also must sign a Democratic Party Affidavit, on Monday, Feb. 25, prior to the election.

A single, one-minute speech may be made by those seeking to be delegates or alternates, on the day of the election.
